Did you know that paper is one of the most recycled materials in the world, accounting for nearly half of all materials collected by weight? The paper industry is one of the largest users of wood in the world, accounting for 33-40% of global trade. In 2021, more than 50 million tons of paper were recycled, resulting in a 68% recycling rate.
To support this, global standards like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) have been established.
What is FSC?
FSC is an organisation that promotes zero deforestation, fair wages, and a safe work environment, as well as land conservation for plants and animals. FSC-certified paper carries one of three labels:

What is Recycled paper?
Recycled paper is made from used paper and can be reused up to 6–7 times before the fibres degrade. Due to varying industry claims, AS Watson prefers paper that is FSC or PEFC certified.

What we do?
AS Watson Group recommends business units to use FSC or PEFC certified paper, or at least 50% recycled paper, to promote sustainable packaging for our Own Brand products. By 2030, we aim to use 100% recycled paper in tertiary packaging made of wood pulp, where FSC or PEFC sources are not available. Given paper’s higher recycling rate and its renewable nature, we remain committed to replacing plastic with sustainable paper wherever possible.
