Superdrug’s 60 Golden Years

Superdrug, the leading health and beauty retailer, is celebrating a major milestone in 2024 - its 60th anniversary.

Customers at the Heart of Superdrug

Founded in 1964, Superdrug has grown from a single store on London's Putney High Street to over 780 stores and over 180 pharmacies serving communities across the UK and Ireland. In 2002, AS Watson Group acquired Superdrug and launched its online store, Superdrug.com in 2006. A few years later, Superdrug introduced its first-ever loyalty programme, Health & Beauty Card, which now has over 18 million members. Over the past six decades, Superdrug has remained focused on putting customers at the heart of its business, establishing itself as trusted O+O (Offline plus Online) destination for affordable, accessible health, beauty, and wellness products.

With over 13,000 staff, Superdrug has been continually innovating to bring the best in trending beauty brands, everyday personal care and essential health products to its customers. This includes the launch of its Beauty Studio, Online Doctor services, and even a Superdrug Marketplace with over 22,000 products. Additionally, Superdrug launched its VIP rewards programme on its mobile app last October, bringing even more offers and rewards to its members and further catering to the evolving needs of its customers.

Caring for the Community

Superdrug's purpose "Doing Good, Feels Super" also encapsulates their dedication to positively impacting their customers and communities. Superdrug has been one of the proud supporters of Marie Curie, a charity that provides care and support to people living with terminal illness. Together with customer support, they have raised £12 million cumulatively throughout their partnership since 2013, driving positive change in the communities.

Sharing Joy with Customers

To celebrate its 60th birthday and say thank you to its amazing customers, Superdrug organised a series of celebratory events. One of the highlights is the #wishUponaSuperdrugStar competition, where Superdrug grants wishes to lucky customers who catch a star. Customers can enter a prize draw, where they have the chance to win a range of amazing prizes, from an indoor skydive to a day with a personal shopper and £1,000 of spending money! Superdrug will also be granting "bespoke wishes" that could be for the customer themselves, someone deserving in their life, their community, or a charity of their choice.

Superdrug has also partnered with major beauty brands to create makeup looks that pay homage to each decade the brand has been in operation. These iconic looks are inspired by the different eras, but with a modern twist, allowing Superdrug's customers to recreate and wear them today.

Our aim is to inspire “That Superdrug Feeling” in everyone who encounters our business, whether customers, suppliers, partners, or colleagues. “That Superdrug Feeling” will always be unique – fun, trend, value, choice, expert - but its overall meaning lies in making the very best in accessible beauty and health equality available to all, every day.
